Why Photographers are Sometimes like Mechanics...

I often get asked the question "Do you photograph your own children a lot?" and the surprising answer is "no". Other then family day-trips to Blue Mountain or vacations in England, my children do not usually go in front of the camera on a regular basis. I tend to relate my dilemma to that of a mechanic... You know the type, they have the amazing ability to fix other peoples cars but often drive beat-up lemons themselves. Well, this is the case for me and my children!

Kids usually do not co-operate for Mommy like they do for any other person... any Mom can attest to that. And so, posing for Mom without crossing eyes, sticking out tongues or getting generally silly is often a long, drawn out process.

And so, taking the knowledge of my own children's air of sillies...I set up lights in my living room last night and attempted to capture their Christmas portraits. It proved to be quite the interesting portrait session, with many Jim-Carrey-like funny faces...not quite the type you would frame and give to Gramma for Christmas! But in the end, I was able to settle on a few that I was happy with (mini-marshmallows became the name of the game!). I'll just hold on to the silly ones to show on their wedding days!

When preparing for a Boudoir Photography session, please keep the following in mind:

  • Plan your session for a time that works best for you. Stressing over time restraints may come through on your photographs.

  • Eat a light breakfast/lunch/dinner before your session so that you have lots of energy

  • Invite a close friend or family member to be present during your Boudoir Photography session. It may help you to feel more comfortable in front of the camera to have a familiar face nearby. They may also help out with some of your wardrobe selections!

  • Wear a clear deodorant to avoid white marks on your clothing...especially if you plan to change outfits frequently.

  • If you choose to wear make up, have fun with it! Boudoir sessions allow for a little-bit heavier then usual makeup. Try to aim for neutral colours though, so that it matches with all of the costumes/outfits you choose to wear.

  • Try to drink lots of water for a few days before the session, to give your skin a great healthy glow

  • Avoid wearing tight undergarments the day of photography, avoiding creases in your skin

  • Plan for a few wardrobe changes, so that you can experiment with varying styles. Clothing, shoes, pantyhose, jewelery and small playful props all add up to creative images!

  • Have fun!

Boudoir photography is a collaboration between the model and the photographer and the more you prepare for your boudoir portrait session the more you will enjoy your day of romance!

Masut Photography: Reborn!

Welcome to the NEW Masut Photography!

I am very excited to announce the launch of Masut Photography's NEW website! I have been searching high and low for a design that I like, and thanks to a fellow photographer I was able to stumble across this one! Thanks Melanie!

Local singer/songwriter Melissa Dawn has been most gracious in allowing me to use her wonderful music to showcase my photography. I highly recommend her for weddings and events...her singing is so beautiful! Melissa's information can be acquired through http://www.melissadawn.ca/

I have made a few changes to my products and services as well... altering my wedding photography packages to meet the needs that I have encountered as well as the addition of 'boudoir photography' (great big thanks to Lisa for her brilliant idea!) Due to the nature of boudoir photography, I do not feel comfortable posting images online...so if you would like a brief overview of the process and final product, please contact me! (What a great christmas gift! wink wink).

I am always looking for feedback, so if you have any questions or comments please let me know!
Happy browsing!

Congratulations Laura and Darryl!

I had the privilage of photographing Laura and Darryl's special day on October 3, 2009. With thunder rolling all morning, and power flickering just hours before the ceremony...we were getting a little nervous. But Laura and Darryl were not only blessed with just enough sunshine for their ceremony and pictures; they were honoured with two swans and a rainbow at our photo shoot! What a gift!

They had a gorgeously 'fall' reception at the Collingwood Legion...complete with a live band, real autumn trees and candles galore! Their attention to detail simply took my breath away!

Congratulations and many best wishes for a long and happy life together, Laura and Darryl!!
